SD Building & Roofing provides the combined services of a building company and a roofing company. This is of major benefit to customers in Worthing, our home location, and to those in the surrounding Littlehampton, Shoreham and West Sussex areas. Flat roofing is a specialist field even for standalone roofing companies. Because we have experience over two different trades, we are in a unique position to install, repair or replace flat roofs on any type of build.
You can use us to repair or replace flat roofing on your home or business, or to install as part of a dormer loft conversion or a property extension.
We can offer you a modern range of coatings and surfaces which are much more resistant to the impact of heat, rain, ice and snow than the older hot application methods of yesteryear. You can contact SD Building & Roofing to arrange a visit to your property, an inspection of your flat roofing structure, and a quotation which contains accurate labour and material costings for any installation, repair or replacement work required on your property.
In our capacity of a local roofing company, we can produce a tailormade package designed around your needs, expectations and budget.
Torch-On-Felt
Torch-on-felt is lower in cost than most modern alternatives but still offers a flat roofing surface that is impenetrable and watertight. This is a three-layered system which our contractors apply to the deck using a blowtorch. While this is still a hot application method as such, it is considerably safer to use than the bitumen and felt systems found on older domestic and commercial flat roofs. We only use torch-on felt systems which we trust for quality and performance.
This material installs easily, has surprising durability and strength, is versatile in terms of application and can still add long-term value to your property.
EPDM Rubber
This durable and long-lasting roofing membrane combines the two primary materials of ethylene and propylene to protect flat roofing structures in the Worthing, Littlehampton and Shoreham areas. Synthetic in design, EPDM is extremely lightweight and, because it is 100% recyclable, it is great for the environment too. Installations leave a seamless, watertight and temperature-resistant finish, and it isn’t unusual for EPDM to last for up to 50 years or more.
Based on the brand of EPDM rubber we use on flat roofing, the manufacturer warranty can be as long as 25 years (a reassuring unique selling point).
GRP Fibreglass
GRP is a system where our roofing company reinforces a polyester resin with chopped stranded glass fibre mats to create a laminate. Laid on flat roofing over OSB3 decks, GRP fibreglass reduces heat loss from a property and, with thicker 600csm glass fibre mats, can withstand moderate levels of foot traffic. This makes GRP a particularly good choice for roof terraces and gardens. You can have a GRP fibreglass roof finished in any topcoat from the RAL palette.
Some manufacturers offer a guarantee of up to 30 years on GRP installations but the expected lifespan, like EPDM, is also set around the 50-year mark.
SD Building & Roofing understands that damage to a flat roofing surface can be costly to repair, so it makes good sense to choose a modern material for resurfacing. We can apply EPDM rubber directly over an older felt material but, with GRP fibreglass, we would need to remove the old surface first. Based on the condition of the deck, we can resurface OSB3 boards so long as they haven’t bowed, cracked, warped or suffered other damage.
Prevention is always better than cure, so we advise that you have flat roofing inspected annually or after periods of extremely harsh weather.
Our combined building and roofing company can visit properties in Worthing, Littlehampton, Shoreham and all West Sussex areas to survey your flat roofing, offer advice on what needs to be done, and recommend you a suitable replacement material that will look great and perform to a high standard.
